A Final Word
I have found that eating these grains in their
natural state eliminates the need to take a lot of B vitamins. The
whole grains can help eliminate sugar cravings. Whole grains have a
natural sweetness that can begin to satisfy that "sweet tooth" in a
healthful way.
Disease and chronic illness are at an all-time high
in our country. The leading cause of death in children age 14 and
under, other than accidents, is cancer. Did you know that just one
teaspoon of sugar will lower your immune system for up to five
hours? Start your family’s day with some whole grains. Grains are
“slow burners,” so they will keep your blood sugar levels
relatively stable, unlike store bought cereals and muffins.
Grains open the door to the wonder of God’s
creation--and to much blessing in wonderful taste treats and
significant nutritional advantages.
Grains are completely interchangeable and can be mixed. They can be
toasted in a little olive oil in a frying pan and then cooked. They
can be cracked and added to sauces. As I looked through grain
cookbooks, I began to make a list of ingredients that were mixed
with grains and decided as long as I knew the various ingredients, I
could develop unlimited recipes. You can use red wine, salad
dressings or vinegar. You can add tamari sauce or Braggs amino acids
(which taste just like soy sauce.) Be creative in using the
following spices: fresh mint, basil, rosemary, thyme, oregano, salt
and pepper. I always use lots of onion, garlic, peppers and
chili’s. Tomatoes, chili powder, corn, peas, chopped walnuts, pine
nuts and mustard are all tasty additions to your grain dishes.
